Looking at Jupiter-Saturn from Several Angles

Several Angles on The JUPITER SATURN Cycle

The Jupiter-Saturn dynamic we refer to
as a conjunction
has an evolutionary purpose in general
and this is reflected within society:
systems structures practices and knowledge bases
are prone to stasis or stagnation if not refreshed.
Jupiter and Saturn working to achieve balance
provide the processes
whereby a point of crisis arises
out of the failure inadequacy ineffectiveness
of the old ways

Past ways and past beliefs have to be reassessed in order for more integrated structures to arise.

The essential approach to integration needs to contain the qualities of wholism.

Practices that are coherent with the balancing patterns shown in nature and in the larger cosmos are able to build more functional structures into society

Update 2025: this work since 2022 has expanded into a book length study of multiple chapters in two parts. Completion of Part 2 remains in a holding pattern at the finalising state with momentum having been stalled by multiple personal transits though 2023 and 2024 and into 2025.

Part One was originally fully posted here but ongoing issues with the blog host's templates have been problematic.

Hoping to proceed to publish/make accessible the full work in some other format in 2025
Meanwhile the foundations of the work continue to be affirmed by relevant examples encountered.

THIS POST PROVIDES AN INTRODUCTORY EXTRACT

Introduction

Societal impacts of the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction

The almost 20 year Jupiter-Saturn cycle plays a key role in urging the mindset and consciousness of humanity towards rectifying our ignorance.

The conjunction of these planets triggers a reset according to the themes in place related to zodiac signs their elemental mode and any influential factors within range at the point of conjunction.

Slow progress which summarises Jupiter-Saturn means century upon century of humans succeeding only partially in the quest for stable functional existence.

Whatever is ripe for reconfiguring is likely to be at crisis level by the time the new cycle is underway.

As societies are managed or controlled by the political will of their elected or dictatorial leaders - progress for humanity relies on the quality of leadership.

Politicians in democratic nations have for too long tended to be too Saturnian [conservative cautious austere stingy slow] in all the worst ways and too Jupiterian [wasteful hyperbolic loose] in all the worst ways to be able to assist us in our collective progress.

To achieve more successful effective outcomes [Jupiter] the structuring of new forms models or paradigms [Saturn] aims to build upon extend expand or broaden [Jupiter ] the fundamentals of the societal framework [Saturn]

This in turn can require the abandonment shedding or rejection of a number of old ways traditions habits and beliefs.

A continual mix of Jupiter and Saturn in dynamic acts of balancing is what is required through the new cycle to achieve a distinct level of refinement of the status quo as encountered at the onset of the cycle.

This refinement involves matching human endeavour to the underlying law of the cosmos which is total connectedness - a connection readily lost in human consciousness -our essential sameness and interdependency being denied by our multiplicity of forms both as a species and across the full realm of animal vegetable and mineral categorisations.

The following chapters traverse various qualities and expressions of the Jupiter-Saturn dynamic -from basic human traits to the dynamics of solar-planetary activations.

BREXIT astrology - the world has changed

June 2016 saw the UK deliver a LEAVE vote in terms of membership of the European Union
Most of the debate has been immigration focussed -but it is the political, economic and financial causes and consequences which are possibly more significant.
Astrological cycles are a powerful guide to historical events and in 2016 the essence of the current Saturn-Jupiter cycle has been awakened.
[May 2000 the last Saturn-Jupiter conjunction at 22'43 Taurus
Note also: Pluto in that chart was 11'38 Sagittarius]
Fast forward to 2016
June 23
Saturn -the classic signifier of separation being by this stage at 11'40 Sagittarius triggers a transformational freedom [Pluto in Sagittarius] foreshadowed in the conjunction chart of May 2000
this quickly released image from the Leave sector
[Mars at 23'23 Scorpio on 23/6/2016 activates the original conjunction - Saturn and Jupiter play out the classic tug-of-war - Saturn = separating, versus Jupiter = being part of a big socio-political territory.]
But Saturn in Sagittarius requires a blending of the two motivations - and freedom through leaving seems to have captured a few more million people in the UK referendum

Pluto energy signifies that much has has to break down and burn to the core in order for a new version to arise out of the ashes.
This is transformation, this is healing and renewal - exactly the intense change that most people dread and fear right through to the cellular level, when it affects any aspect of life - but when a whole nation is collectively put on the bonfire, it's a powerful rebirth that's on offer.

Faith and trust are called upon more than ever that something better could arise -better than propping up dysfunctional plutocratic governments, the privileged and comfortable sectors who have been the clearly identified beneficiaries of neoliberal politics across the world, the architects of austerity, the engineers of inequality.
[ The June New Moon with the mutable grand cross -Gemini Sagittarius Virgo Pisces served as a significant trigger for this momentous change -with Saturn, [leave] Jupiter, [stay combined] Neptune,[faith] Venus,[financial issues] Sun and Moon all in a battle for resolution: the Brexit vote has displayed what the majority wanted in the UK]
So June 2016 marks a very significant stake in the ground in the European and global arena.

In terms of energy shifts -which are essentially the role of astrology to identify and explain - we, globally and collectively are sitting, in 2016, on the fringes of the biggest shift in 200 years
excerpt from Saturn-Jupiter analysis*
So, in the most recent cycle, aside from 1980-81, our global humanity has been locked increasingly and highly dysfunctionally, into a very materialistic, money-oriented mindset since 1802.

In 2016, the world is again being put on notice, given a forewarning, a wake-up call, courtesy of Brexit and the obvious financial ripples, shudders and crashes.
A bright light is illuminating the coming transition towards the end of 2020 - the beginning of 200 years shift in focus - focus away from money, possessions, mass indulgence in greed, accumulating, collecting, storing. THINGS, objects, stuff, clutter.
And because nothing happens in a vacuum - global effects with mass consequences are the expected conduit through which humanity's relationship to money, possessions, accumulation is in many ways forcibly changed.
People en masse are simply not going to wake up in this transition period and beyond 2020, and say words to the effect I'm over this materialist shit - though a few already are and people in the 1960's hippy era did embrace this philosophy
-[Saturn and Jupiter conjuncted in 1961]
So global events are the obvious precursor crisis that enforces less materiality -and yes, less money,- due to conditions of deprivation for many-rather than a pre-selected personal philosophical choice.

The hard way is enforced change.
The easier way is working out in advance where the flow is going and making personal decisions that create a shift away from so much extreme dependence on a materialistic existence - eg renting versus owning property, public transport versus personal vehicle, reducing the quantity of consumer goods purchased in favour of using just what you need or sharing/borrowing/hiring appliances/tools/equipment.
Being prepared to live on a lower income.
Getting rid of clutter, stored possessions. [The minimalist style is an early flavour of what is to be much more prevalent]
Downsizing -literally reducing the scale of the things you choose to keep - housing, transport - house to apartment; from car to a scooter.

Because we have already entered the transition period there are many indicators of these shifts in consciousness about materialism.
More is to come because it is a collective shift that will capture the essential mindset of humanity -and many will not be interested in making a change. But the flow cannot be resisted. Standing in a growing flood is simply the sign of a delusional ego.
Global financial crises have been continually anticipated again in the years after the 2007 GFC and the odds have arguably been increased with the Brexit Leave vote.
Brexit itself is not the world changer, Brexit happened because the world is in transition for even more change.

Astrology of Art and Image-making

In the new millennium, image making by digital means has become the dominant format due to the sheer volume of still and moving images that can quickly be created and shared.

Pisces energy, through it's carrier planet, Neptune is the astrological signifier of image making though film, video and photography -as well as illusion, magic, fantasy, night dreams, daydreams, hallucination, sleep, intoxication, hypnosis, escapism, immersion... no surprise then that there is considerable power behind a single visual image frozen in time, or the captivating potential of movies which transport us away from our own reality temporarily and into some other world, some other persona we can inhabit.
The Piscean forms of image making have gained dominance over hand-crafted techniques of painting and printing, due to a shift in human development from the material to the immaterial.
IMMATERIALITY MIRROR

Digital formats represent the shift [represented by the Saturn-Jupiter cycle] from the material formats into the realm of data. This is consistent with a cycle shift from the element of Earth to the element of Air -which has a global impact on human technological development. This constitutes the current shift away from the object towards the conceptual as well as the increasing miniaturization of devices, the increase in wireless connectivity, and of course the role of data superseding the physical format.

The main signs and planets that connect to art and aesthetics are

  • Taurus - due to the sensual/sensory kinaesthetic aspects, craft - - constructed by hand, manual art
  • Libra - aesthetics and fine art
  • Leo - expressionist gesture and dramatic colour
  • Pisces - imaginative, other wordly, illusionist, dreamlike
  • Sun - the energy of light, expresses through Leo
  • Venus - has the qualities of Taurus and Libra
  • Jupiter -the artistic sublime. The representation of awe-inspiring scale or magnitude
  • Neptune -dematerialised abstractionimmersive, hypnotic experiences through Pisces image formats or styles.
If you have the noted signs strong when you were born -especially Sun or Moon, Venus, Mars in Taurus or Libra, Leo, Pisces
or
If one or more of those 4 planets were at the sunrise or noon position when you were born [1st and 10th house positions] - you will receive some degree of creative urge - made stronger if the appropriate signs are featured as well eg Moon in Leo, Venus in Pisces, Sun in Leo, Mars in Libra

Aquarian and Uranian energy are the signifiers of electricity and electronics, new inventions, futuristic developments. Yes. We truly are now in the Age of Aquarius - but not exclusively - because other forces are always active.
In the current period, 2016-2019 there remains 3 more years -less than half of the cycle - of Uranus - being in Aries [a period when people feel compelled to go solo -or at lease meet their own distinct needs when in a partnership] This Aries energy also affects the development of pioneering technologies as more people are prepared to be bold, fearless in taking risks.
From early 2019-mid 2026 Uranus energy affects all things connected to Taurus -which is a huge array - the earth itself - our planet - is symbolic of Taurus and all things physical, material - so in the period of effect there will be very significant shifts towards digitalisation, data, miniaturization, people feeling less materialistic, greater trends involving mimimalism, decluttering etc - so the influence on art is likely to also be significant:
Uranus is a signifier of revolution and so the potential is there for artists to arise with fresh, unusual and progressive art forms or subjects, very different or new media - even a new artistic movement [long overdue]

Neptune -the distant slow moving carrier of Pisces energy has once more moved into its own true mode - transiting Pisces in the period 2012-2025 - a part of the cycle not seen for over 150 years - the last period of Neptune in Pisces began in 1848.
The period 2012-2025 will see an abundance of moving and still image-making, hopefully a new era in immersive film-making -not simply the gimmicky 3D - but story-telling with highly romantic or entrancing, hypnotic qualities.
A highly significant indicator of this Piscean-Neptunian era is the 2015 Todd Haynes directed Carol - based on the romantic novel originally issued as The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith in 1952 under the pseudonym Claire Morgan

Everything from the story, the direction, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the costuming and the lead actors has completely entranced a broad range of movie-goers - not simply the justifiably besotted women who love women, but a significant number of  people in general who have responded to the sheer hypnotic portrayal of a romantic engagement which builds in intensity towards the promise of a blissful outcome.
This movie had sex -but not in the current style of totally in your face, carnal desire - but as fitting the late 1940's era -with much restraint, modesty, tenderness -and this has struck a chord with a huge audience wanting this style of intimacy - a love-heart-romance connection much more than the physical encounter.
The totally smitten fanbase for everything Carol has resulted in an avalanche of tribute material, copious updates, artworks and fan fiction -  on YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter as well as chat sites
FB quote notes the photographic references - which deepen the Piscean stylisation of Carol
The fact that the biggest awards OSCARS and BAFTAS dismissed the movie is highly indicative of a totally out-of-touch power base.
It would be very appropriate for the movie industry in this era to be investing in meaningful romance movies because there is a hunger out there and it will endure.
