The mutable signs Pisces Gemini Virgo Sagittarius all share the theme of Mind.
Pisces and Sagittarius are aligned in certain respects.
Both signs are disposed towards expansion and exploration of territory beyond the everyday preoccupations of the mind
Gemini and Virgo are also paired. These signs are oriented to information and detail. They are most oriented to the everyday minutiae of facts figures data trivia quizzes puzzles.
All four of the mutable signs are capable of crossover if their basic orientation is contrasted with another mutable theme in the birth chart - such as a Gemini planet in the 9th house adding a Sagittarian influence or Mercury located in Pisces - combining to express through Gemini Virgo and Pisces.

Sagittarians readily pursue their highs through high adrenalin adventure and sport if not oriented towards knowledge and wisdom - all these options can create obsessive attachments - the fervour of sports fans is evident. The growing sports betting trend is seen as problematic. The academic devoted wholly to research at the expense of a balanced life. All are lost in mind.
A large swathe of people will have a significant mutable sign orientation - whether directly by one of the four signs referenced above or due to the influence of their related planetary influence - Mercury for Gemini and Virgo Jupiter for Sagittarius and Neptune for Pisces. So this is an issue for humanity and for the human collective mindstream.
The transits of Neptune and Saturn through Pisces have resulted in many people making a deeper connection to their spiritual essence - wanting to find themself - but also many people wanting to lose themself.
This split within humanity is being recognised and it is a polarisation needing to be healed.

But we can evolve what Leary proposed and find space without drugs because inner spaciousness is something that exists within our DNA - our celestial formless origins. We just have to remove the clutter. Turn down the volume of everyday life and return to the subtleties of the natural world the swaying of trees in the wind the flight of birds the rising and setting sun the glow of the moon the touch of raindrops and explore the life held beyond our human prison.

Gestation into the World
Pisces mirrors the third trimester state of consciousness in the womb - the 3 month period before birth when we know fully our essence is formless.
The astrological correspondence is the 12th house - the realm of experience that contains the storage of our personal unconscious but also that of humanity as a collective. Our personal vault holds all the imprints from prior lives lived in physical form so every incarnation whether male female and possibly other species and our behaviours thoughts feelings in those lives are perpetual - with periods of leakage and overlay within the present life.
And we cannot truly call our various lives "incarnations" or "past" as there is no form no past no future no linear time aside from the human constructs we create for practical purposes.
Anything we have ever been or felt and will be is able to leak through into any present moment. Truly we have multiple versions of ourself that can express. For this reason alone our psychological status can vary dramatically depending on what imprint comes into the present. From this level of complexity a lot of functional imbalance can arise. With the collective mind-field being so impacted many have struggled with the amount of agitation activated in the unconscious level of mind. This reflects a dominance of negatively expressed Neptune over positive Saturn - an inability to find the ground.
In Pisces eras there is a collective urge to find ways of transcending physical reality. This arises due to the stark contrast between two very different worlds: the challenges and distress experienced during our physical life lessons compared to the comfort when existing purely as consciousness when not incarnated. Transcending is different from trying to escape.
Trying to balance out these two known states - physical and non-physical - is humanity's greatest collective challenge due to the amnesia that takes hold once fully physical life unfolds after birth. The challenge is evident in all the methods people use to try and escape our unconscious feelings of imprisonment in the world of material form.
Escapism is a defective option because it is an attempt to suppress psychological stress. The only workable way to live in physical reality is to keep anchored in the heaven that exists on Earth: the life forms and patterns that are not based in mental disorder - trees plants birds animals; the cycles of each day and season ; the flows of wind and water.
Humans are now more than ever lost in mind and it is a mind distorted by conditioning in the physical world. This is why teachers urge us to empty the mind. To gaze and enter direct experience and turn off the commentary. Practices like meditation or mantra are able to encourage mental space by means of developing a frequency shift in your level of consciousness. This opens a pathway to heightened awareness about our true essence: the awareness we carry as a connected aspect of the larger spiritual consciousness that is embedded in all of life at every level.
Only on Earth in an illusion of separate form can we feel alone but while here we can also nullify that misperception through conscious acts of connection within a state of presence - sustained focus without thought.
This type of development is urged under Saturn and Neptune in Pisces. We are challenged to strip away our addiction to a fully physical life and our immersion in endless mental chatter. Both states of unease reflect a lack of groundedness.
The paradox is that we need to be earthed - very present - in order to transcend our distress experienced in living in the 3rd dimensional physical state.
Clearly city life is the most adverse environment for achieving such balance.
The exit of Neptune and Saturn - leaving Pisces for Aries - does not end the need for spiritual evolution while embodied. The cycles overlay and Pisces themes will endure in the context of the Aries periods - 2025-2028 for Saturn and 2025-2039 for Neptune when even more people will choose to dissolve their Ego and its selfish demands and seek peace and harmony with others.
The underlying truth will permeate collective consciousness: we are not separate beings any more than a branch is separate from its tree.

So the available energy at any time - existent and embedded in us - is capable of wearing many different -but related - faces or morphing into variant forms - depending upon the type of and degree of resonance with each individual
Selecting universal themes from the signature of any significant energy event -like an eclipse - involves selecting from a range of related possibilities/probabilities which are consistent with contemporary themes impacting humanity.
In 2017 there is again in the world a widening divide at the same time as a merging together -conflicting and contradictory forces which are creating deep divisions in communities, within nations and in global politics.
Many can detect elements of prior extreme historical periods when brutal and repressive forces led in the worst cases to the outright slaughter of great numbers of people who were depicted as deficient, defective, threatening, impure, unholy - attitudes that are based not in a rational mind but stem from a far more instinctual panic residing in the ancient part of the human brain.
2017 is occurring at a time of expanded social awareness where one sector of humanity is predisposed towards inclusion and so this is some protection against a potential outright contagion of instinctual panic and a return to widespread repression of our species' progression towards greater expression of true humanity.
Sometimes it feels like there is not just one human species but two - at war - with completely different consciousness - and in truth this consciousness difference is real because without love, compassion and inclusion and without embracing an expanded view of human potentials and variations our humanness remains very primitive.
The Pisces solar eclipse of late February 2017 sees compassionate energies from the sun and moon merging in conjunction = a new beginning, elevating for many their capacity to feel empathy and support for others, wanting to help and understand those who are suffering, mistreated, excluded.
Mercury and Neptune also in Pisces at the time of the eclipse add further emphasis to this refining influence..enabling many to resolve to "become a better person".
Along with this surge comes a big dose of "confidence to be different" - from the Mars and Uranus combination in Aries - and with Jupiter in Libra linked in - social confidence, joy and pleasure have certainly been delivered to many by this eclipse.

The imbalance is now set in place for such extremes.

return of El Nino for 2015-2016 is potentially strong to very strong
& if a run of El Nino years occurs as in 1930-1933 or 1939-1942
then the flow on economic effect will also be sustained.
A sustained El Nino is highly consistent with the forecasting outlined above using contemporary and upcoming planetary indicators along with the historic record -see 2015 post on China and El Nino and the post on drought in the US
Since Feb 3 2012, Neptune is now fully progressing through its own sign Pisces, for the next 13 years . This energy shift has the potential to progress humanity into a more healthy and connected state, but not without trials and challenges. We are likely to see the worst of Pisces/Neptune before the pendulum brings forth the best expressions of this energy, that people can aspire to. Essentially, the Neptunian state of awareness is very consistent with the findings of quantum physicists who talk of existence as an undifferentiated whole in language that sits meaningfully alongside the Buddhist conception of reality. The fundamental interconnectedness of all things is what humanity at large has forgotten and for millennia we have lived in a state of illusion. From this comes all the woes we now face - wars, oppression, greed and the trashing of the natural world, are all related signs of this dis-ease.

This chart is significant for the spiritual imperative of Neptune in Pisces arising in concert with the Saturn Libra to Sun-Jupiter in Aries opposition. Pressures relating to fiscal restraint along with relationship dynamics under duress are indicated. Public and private necessities to get your house in order. Chiron in close proximity to Neptune indicates the wounded soul of humanity, disposed more to the escapist, addictive, corrupt and devious underbelly of Neptune than its higher octave of kindness, compassion and goodness. Forgetting we are connected means we abuse each other.
The collection of 6 planets in Aries is a dominant theme, emphasising violence male/yang force aggression and militarism and the pursuit of selfish goals, which are to some extent moderated by Saturn's urge towards restraint, mediation, balance and peace-making, but the balance here is somewhat overwhelmingly reckless, accentuated by Mars tightly linked to Uranus.

Aquarian experiences in recent years [Neptune in Aquarius] have brought people together collectively largely via technology of social media. It may be remote, anonymous and faceless, but it the Aquarian group consciousness, friendliness instinct and networking drive have knitted together a type of matrix onto which the overlays of Neptunian sensitivity can be grafted during the 13 years ahead. Neptune in Pisces offers the capacity for a sense of universal oneness, a sense that we are all in this together. Out of this can ultimately arise empathy and compassion on a scale possibly not seen before. For this big ask to occur, something Big is likely to spread a global sense of union. How else is a currently rather rotten humanity, beset by comparatively antithetical imperatives, to be transformed so powerfully. It seems a galvanizing event or events will be the catalyst.

What is the astrological connection between drugs, nutritional supplements & sport -take a look at this sketch showing the quartet of mutable signs Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius.

All signs have multiple connected keywords attached which explain their range of expressions, but for the purposes of the drugs-in-sport issue it is clear how the mutable group of signs has clear involvement: Pisces is drugs, chemicals in general as well as dishonest practices. The polarity sign Virgo concerns the optimum functioning of the digestive system and so relates to the goal of perfection via maximum nutrition. Sagittarius and Gemini both relate to the physical use of the body - Gemini on the everyday level of transporting the body from one place to another -by walking or cycling. Sagittarius is the professional or dedicated level of exercise or sport- involving focussed programs and competition aimed at maximum development & attainment of the human body. This illusion or dream (Pisces) of superhuman (Sagittarius) perfection (Virgo) is the problem. The goal is unnatural and a fantasy. The irony is that this is a problem of Mind or consciousness, an error in thinking - and we return to the roles played by all 4 mutable signs here: pisces is self delusion as well as trying to fool others, Virgo is the mental attachment to the goal of perfection and involves extreme detailed analysis of the ideal nutritional or drug cocktails. Gemini is the everyday functioning level of the mind and how communication take place with others. Sagittarius is the beliefs or philosophy held.
Errors in thinking, analysis and beliefs along with the urge to engage in dishonest practices are clearly evident in the drugs-in-sport problem.
The irony is there are alternative ways of using all the energies in this group. With greater enlightenment, sports professionals in large numbers will recognise that mind training (Sagittarius) and meditation (Pisces) have far more powerful results in sports attainment than from physical training. Enough studies have already confirmed this. This is the way of the future.

FOR ONGOING UPDATES & OUTCOMES SCROLL TO END OF THIS POST Original post begins: December 2011: There is an imminent eclipse in the wings - total lunar visible in the southern hemisphere coinciding with the moon at maximum north declination in respect of the earth. These factors can trigger turbulence. Exactitude is Dec 10 2011 (Universal Time) though the building phase & aftermath phase makes for a period of Dec 7-13 to watch. Also take note of the December solstice when the Sun is at zero degrees of the cardinal sign Capricorn and therefore one of the traditional four seasonal markers. This year the Moon is perigee (closest orb for the month) on Dec 22. Solstice is also on Dec 22. Moon is maximum south on Dec 23 and the New Moon is on the 24th (25th NZ). So this is a whole bunch of factors all compressing into a brief time frame.
One source I follow is suggesting there will be enough strain generated to have significant impact on the tectonic state of the planet with significant seismic consequences. Watch and see if the sun gets more active (flares, Coronal Mass Ejections, coronal holes)(update Xmas Day solar flare M4.0 emits CME to earth) and human behaviour in general is perturbed by the highly charged atmosphere. Wild/extreme weather is also aggravated by these strong solar-lunar forces.
For New Zealand the Moon starts to enter the Earth's penumbral shadow just after 12.30am NZDT on the morning of December 11 and the umbral shadow just after 1.45am. Totality lasts from 3.06 to 3.57 with the deepest eclipse at 3.32 am NZDT. At that time the Moon will be 21° above the horizon in Auckland, 18° at Wellington, 17° at Christchurch and 15.5° at Dunedin and Invercargill. The eclipse signs are Sagittarius and Gemini
Polar opposite signs always share themes, but these themes have distinct differences in intensity and focus.
For example Gemini is the typical energy of trivia and bits of information. Texting, emails, letters, books, written and phone messages, telecommunications are all commonly associated with this sign. Sagittarius utilises similar channels to Gemini -but for more advanced/sophisticated or meaningful purposes -so instead of simply reading for pleasure (Gemini), Sagittarian reading is about study, learning. Gemini the messenger loves collecting and passing on tidbits of information, trivia, but Sagittarius is focussed on knowledge, beliefs, wisdom, morals, ethics, ideas of significance, philosophy.
Both signs love activity and travel - due to the need for mental stimulation and due to physical restlessness. Gemini is more localised/regional trips by car plus leisure walking and cycling, plus transport in general. Issues related to information, message systems, beliefs, ethics are more likely to arise globally in the 6 month eclipse period. This time frame will see more people inclined to Gemini-Sagittarius activities as outlined above.
In terms of more subtle stuff, this eclipse has energies attached related to spiritual/emotional healing being on offer for many.
As usual, there are people (and places) more particularly affected - including (but not exclusively - as your personal birthchart can show relevant connections) those born on/around Dec 10, March 8, June 8, Sept 10 - any year.
Brace yourself though, whatever your circumstances: globally much more social disruption and political upheaval is on the cards

Just noticed that on Xmas weekend 24-25th Mars will trigger the eclipse potentials strongly (Mars in Virgo square the 18 degree sun-moon of the Dec 10 eclipse)
A square (90 degrees) provides a stress energy resulting in friction, restlessness, probably critical arguments during discussions. Looks like those family gatherings could get a little heated if you are unable to discharge the excess energy through a bit of exercise!
Of course all the transport networks -local & international (Gemini-Sagittarius) will be extra busy - Mars provides lots of extra energy to that activity but being at right angles don't expect things to flow that well -snarl-ups and bad temper likely in this context too. Gemini-related Mercury is in retrograde phase and not truly in full direct phase until New Year's Day 2012 which means interference with transport and telecommunications networks, miscommunications, confused or lost messages and all related situations where flow of information can be interfered with.

Looking towards Xmas there are significant warnings to consider: December 22 solstice Uranus is exact square the Sun and Pluto sits on the Mars-Saturn midpoint in the leadup into the Xmas Day New Moon in Capricorn. This new moon pattern will include the effects of these two powerful planetary groupings.
Uranus brings turbulent and sudden effects. It is in the fire sign Aries and the sun in the earth sign Capricorn relateds to the structure and crust of the earth. The warning is: take seriously any threatening person or force in your environment especially in the time frame Dec 21-23. A lot of news coming through in NZ - as well as globally - that has a Mars theme - heat, fire, weapons, burning, anger, aggression. (Mars strongly activated at the Dec New Moon plus Mars in Virgo was at right angles to the Gemini-Sag eclipse, but not close enough to be strongly effective in my opinion. However, the other interaction Mars is having is with the lunar nodes in Gemini-Sag which it has been in range of exactitude by 90 degree square since Dec 10 and extending till at least Dec 16. People vulnerable to 14 degrees of mutable signs, including those born on or around Dec 7, March 4, Jun 4, Sept 6 any year are most likely - plus those whose birth chart reveals a planet at 14 Sag/ Gemini/Pisces/ Virgo. With the Mars factor added to the vulnerable eclipse birth dates mentioned in paragraph 3 - people born within the whole time frame of those dates eg Dec 7-10 inclusive, can expect strong activations - either actively or passively, acting or being acted upon by someone/thing with Mars energy. Ireland: Met Éireann last week recorded the highest ever wave seen in Irish waters as a 67 foot monster was registered by the M4 weather buoy on Tuesday afternoon, the Irish Times reports.
Located 10 miles west of Rossan Point, Co. Donegal, the buoy clocked the huge wave just after 2 pm, the weather service said on its website, with another wave earlier in the day also topping 65 feet. Both smashed the previous record of approximately 52 feet, with a Met Éireann spokesperson calling it “a significant jump in magnitude.” “If you get a long stream of strong winds from the same direction, you get waves building up…"
Thailand, Xmas Day A 10-to-13 feet high wave inundated a shore on the Gulf of Thailand, causing floods of one metre deep and damaging houses in a village in Chumphon province, according to Provincial Governor Pinich Charoenpanich.
These wave examples may be consistent with disturbed, unbalanced and very intense weather patterns noted globally - with stuck pressure zones and strong winds noted in many locations.
