Climate & Human Crisis

As an astrologer the future is always of interest. Consideration of the changes and consequences related to global climate is high on our collective agenda with daily reminders that significant forces are in process. All life on this planet is being impacted and as humans it is natural to look for meaning when an existential crisis arises.
I have a special interest in researching the galactic forces that deliver severe weather. I feel very attuned to the state of the planet and it's recurrent responses to the sun the moon the eclipses. This all makes perfect sense to those who think on a large scale. We occupy a tiny place in a huge system which in itself is minuscule within the larger universe. We know so little...but over millenia we have some knowledge of repeated themes occurring related to the prominence of particular planets.

The watchers amongst us know that the world changes significantly when certain planets occupy certain signs.
The three signs at the end of the zodiac are Capricorn Aquarius and Pisces. These represent the last sector of development of consciousness on a collective level.
After ideas beliefs philosophies and faiths have been explored (the Sagittarius stage) practical action is required consistent with those mental positions (Capricorn stage). Then comes the realisation that we do best when we are friendly towards life and all beings. We see can we work well in groups for the common good (Aquarius stage). After this a growing appreciation of our commonality our sameness our interconnected lives and existence our link to all other life. Ultimately this extends to the cosmos the whole of existence. From these awarenesses compassion is born and harm is no longer an option. (Pisces stage)

These are the ideals indicated as an aspirational pathway for humanity. At present in general we fall well short and the destructive consequences of that are clear.

From where we are now the most relevant planets can be tracked through this developmental sector from Capricorn to Pisces past the middle of this century.

One current factor outside this scheme but playing a major role in the planet is Uranus in the earth sign Taurus. This planet is the great change-maker through sudden disruptions and unexpected events. In Taurus this is the state of Planet Earth and the soil and what it produces and feeds.
Uranus is in a 7 year cycle in Taurus till 2026.
By now you will see 2026 standing out as a gateway year.
Pluto will be left largely in charge as it transits the Aquarius and Pisces zones
Pluto is recognised symbolically as the Phoenix arising from the ashes ..but the meltdown is always stage one...and Pluto's long period in Capricorn from late 2008-2024 is the start.
The purpose and meaning of all of this is growth evolution development...but these all have a price - what you have to change give up and let die.

This introduction gives a timeline for these processes which are occurring in the context of globally significant processes - one being climate impacts - others are socioeconomic and political.

This post arise as a response to an interview between Daniel a Buddhist and Jem Bendell an academic who has committed to climate action and who wants to promote the notion of adaptation to whatever unfolds. He sees social collapse as inevitable and therefore promotes the contemplative and spiritual paths as well as the psychological and mental health support necessitated for many.
His focus is how we are going to help each other.
To me this reflects the Capricorn Aquarius Pisces trio - the structural changes necessitated the groups and networks engaged the commonality acknowledged all for collective benefit.

The spiritual imperative ranks highest for me in terms of adaptation and that source of guidance serves to inform practical decisions more soundly than any responses born out of panic fear or desperation.
By 2026 the picture will be undeniably clear as to choices and what needs to change.

February 2018 stock market plunge

Opinions on the US stock market plunge which began Feb 5 are variable - including computer-programed trading, concerns about a coming rise in inflation and interest rates and maybe even the Federal Reserve sell-off of assets.
The Guardian calls it a "mood swing" and even a "fat finger" mistake..as well as...
It is puzzling to analysts that the money coming out of the markets is not necessarily going into government treasuries or other safe havens. That suggests investors are also simply taking out profit after an intense market rally at the beginning of this year.

Curiouser and curiouser is the situation with analysts proposing a handful of reasons and no one really sure which led the charge.

Here's another take on it:

The amount of Chinese money fuelling the global economy has to be factored in.
Chinese are strong believers in predictions regarding the good luck/bad luck cycles.
On February 4 2018 the start of Spring occurred in China.
This denotes the new annual cycle
2018 is the Year of the Dog.
2018 in the cycle of elements is an Earth year
Dog is an Earth element energy.
This makes 2018 a "double earth" year.
Double always indicates some kind of double trouble - some people and some aspects of life have a tougher year than usual.

The earth element is associated the planet Saturn which also indicates positive and negative outcomes.

Stock markets and economies are seen by the Chinese to have an energy like water, the undulating waves.
The earth element is regarded as a negative for the stock market and in economic matters.
Double earth means significant difficulty.

Strong earth energy sucks up water in this battle of the elements..meaning less liquidity, drying up [also drought]
So 2018 under Chinese astrological indicators for economic matters has an energy of conserving, saving, fiscal restraint - not rampant spending, not risk-taking. [ this is consistent with the indicators in Western astrology under Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus.

Did Chinese New Year panic play a role?

2018 is also forecast to be tough for Donald Trump as being born in the Year of the Dog with lots of fire and earth energy. When more earth energy occurs as in a double earth year, Trump is left even more unbalanced as excess of an element is always detrimental. October is when the extent of his difficulties peak according to
Woody Chan's outlook for 2018.

China sees itself as the centre of the world and with a difficult outlook foreseen in the East direction [from China]  this could indicate political & socio-economic conditions deteriorating in the US in the year from Feb 2018.

The total lunar eclipse of Jan 31/Feb 1 remains in play until August so the stock market issues have also been activated under the complex array of conditions involving the range of planets in tight angular  connection to that eclipse.

With current factors in effect and knowing what factors are unfolding in the short term next few years it would seem more likely than not that market "corrections" will not be unusual and could tend towards significant as our relationship with money and materialism continues to be altered.

Financial astrology is another specialist field and not the one known best to the author.
One such specialist Ray Merriman considers this period the start of The Great Reset -and whatever factors he is using for that conclusion...the writing is generally on the wall as we all collectively head towards the end of a 200 year socio-economic age which officially ends just before the close of December 2020 allowing the new 200+ year cycle to be in place as 2020 concludes.
For some years we have been in the transition period -where two contrasting idealogies run alongside each other..so the new is in fact already identifiable as more and more virtual and digital artefacts replace the solidly physical...as people begin to declutter and have a smaller terrestrial footprint..these are everyday examples of a massive conceptual shift [one the world of fine arts embraced decades ago]..this is the shift from earth-focussed [physical, material] energy to dematerialised, miniaturised, conceptualised, digitised air energy - which will create a very differently lived lifestyle in the many decades until the new transition period arises from 2160, heading towards the water cycle fully embedded by 2219 - another long cycle -this time bearing the themes of our shared humanity..our connection to the breadth of existence. It seems a long way to go to reach home.

Cyberwar and the transition to Jupiter-Saturn in Air

CYBER WAR

The historic transition of the Jupiter-Saturn cycle from the earth element into the element of air has significant implications not only for the human response to the physical world, the material object, but also regarding the increasing role and dominance of the extra-terrestrial domains - the sky, outer space - and the forms of energy employed in those domains - especially any in wave-form rather than as a physical vehicle.

Consistent with this transition is the increasing presence of not only geosynchronous satellites [GEO] but now also Middle and Low earth orbits [MEO and LEO ] orbiting Earth in recent decades....

This satellite web encompassing Earth has no precedent and with the evidence of exponential growth recorded by the satellite industry due to a global dependency on this system for infrastructure support, we are definitely in bold uncharted territory given that Space is a hostile and unpredictable environment, under the local control of our massive sun-star  and vulnerable to all manner of fly-by attacks from wandering rocks.
The human capacity to subvert attack, destroy all manner of systems will increasingly become engaged in the detection and manipulation of vulnerabilities in all communications systems due to the potential of cyberwar to effect massive consequences.
The threat from Superpowers attacking each other's satellites is increasingly real ;
"...in the 1980s the Soviet Union developed parts of its Naryad antisatellite (ASAT) system to place "kill vehicles" in orbit that could attack GEO satellites..."

In 2016 the world is in the transition period, approaching the full-blown dominance of Air based energies/technologies.

The antecedent and unfolding situation is as follows:

• The elemental transition from earth to air dominance in technologies in the Jupiter-Saturn cycle has been preceded by repeated conjunctions in the earth element from 1842 until the end of 1980. 
• From 1981 to May 28, 2000 there was a sequence of Air conjunctions. 
• From May 28, 2000 to Dec 21, 2020 is the last gasp in Earth element dominance [focus on material objects & grossly physical technologies] for hundreds of years.

Due to adverse social-economic-political conditions hallmarked by aggressive and destructive human forces, this transition into Air technologies will see a global increase in cyber attacks affecting all communications systems from individual household and personal technologies to local, national and global networks affecting potentially the full range of infrastructure that has become dependent on this operational system.

Laila Harre in her Most Ascendant Phase

In late May 2014 Laila Harre come into renewed prominence in the political landscape of New Zealand –surprising many by being revealed as the new leader of the Internet Party [founded March 2014 ]

A considerable amount of positive support for Harre ensued, in recognition of her track record in social justice politics, in party political roles and in organisational positions with political relevance

Forging a pre-election alliance with the Mana Party, founded and led by Hone Harawira, in May 2014, the pair share some degree of astrological twinship –they are both early January Capricorns. 

Slow and steady ascent with ambition to reach heights is the hallmark of the Capricorn modus operandi.

Miro happened to be born in a most auspicious period

Pluto and Neptune formed exact conjunctions in Gemini in 1891 and 1892 – for the first meeting in almost 500 years –which is a significant enough collective energy shift – but for Miro the added connections of Jupiter, Uranus and Saturn linked very closely to Pluto-Neptune enhanced his particular ability to be a conduit for the universal energies prevailing.

Pluto conjunct Neptune combines two levels of energy expression that are far removed from everyday experience – the metaphysical and the immaterial – fundamentally the terrain of quantum physics –which most have little sense of or experience with or even intellectual appreciation of.

Thankfully there are artists, musicians, spiritually and scientifically minded people who all have a perspective on the nature of this non-ordinary reality –and therein lies the capacity for cross-over -  where the spiritual or the scientific is expressed through art or music.

Both Pluto and Neptune, via the particular high frequency of electromagnetic radiation they discharge, are associated with abilities beyond the normal, including pre-cognition, extra sensory or clair-sentient ability. They provide a resonance with the physics of the depths of space as well as the minutiae of sub-atomic quantum reality

When Pluto and Neptune aligned exactly in the early 1890’s their position in the Gemini sector made this type of consciousness of the unconscious and hidden realms available to the everyday mind.  The Gemini level of mental functioning is concerned with symbols, signs, language, codes, letters, graphics –along with fragments of information, ephemera – and on another level with writing, reading, talking, communicating ideas, thoughts and general information.

Pluto in Gemini creates a fascination, even obsession with the above aspects of human mind and activities – with a desire to penetrate the mind itself as well for hidden information [ psychoanalysis and hypnosis]

People born with Pluto in Gemini have much more deeply insightful minds than delivered just by Gemini in an unadulterated state. Effectively, Pluto and Neptune together in Gemini create a shift of the mind away from the terrestrial and mundane and into the altered reality of cosmic space-time and the revelation of unconscious material 

There was only one significant factor allowing Miro to keep himself anchored or earthed enough to avoid extreme dysfunctionality: Saturn in the balancing sign Libra provided enough of an antidote to the extremely intense forces he had to work with – four planets in Gemini –being Moon and Mars adding to the Pluto-Neptune mix means he had an awful lot going on in his head; Jupiter and Uranus add in excesses and chaos to the mix and Mercury linking to all the forementioned planets means his planetary channel of mental functioning is receiving a huge amount of information. Is the complexity of his artwork any surprise? Work done in different periods shows different prevailing influences but all his stylistic elements show correspondences with the dominance of one or more of Miro’s driving forces – from the most intense and complex to the minimalist symbolic works infused with motifs of surrealism, cosmic symbology, dreams, the unconscious, dematerialised space.

That Miro expressed his highly energised mind through art comes as no surprise when the combination of Venus, north lunar node, Sun and Jupiter all in the elevated high noon position. These ingredients bring together Venus and planets in the connected sign Taurus [Sun, Jupiter] all in association with the destiny indicator the north lunar node. 

Libra and Leo are the two signs most associated with fine art and creativity and Taurus with sensory perception. Miro has Saturn in Libra which is a good structural or compositional sense; Leo is the sign rising at his birth and the Venus-Node combination in Aries has a polarity link with Libra [opposite signs are in feedback as in any dipolar magnetic system] In other words his Aries elements were equally capable of operating like Libra.

 In combination Miro possessed not only a medley of exceptionally creative traits evidenced by the factors just noted, but also a mid capable of transporting those talents somewhere no one had gone before.

His serious side –describing himself as tragic and tormented and capable of being viewed as constrained – all showing the influence of  Saturn so closely opposed to the mentally functioning Mercury – whereas in terms of pure contradiction Miro himself recognised the humorous and playful aspects of his work and others would detect spontaneity in the man himself. These balancing qualities come from the close conjunction of Jupiter to the Sun and Uranus offsetting some of Saturn’s hardest traits.

Miro’s first solo show was in 1918. Fittingly he was drawn to the avant garde especially surrealist practitioners of the era. By 1922 he showed his capacity for astute deconstruction  of material reality – identifying the canvas as a magnetic field activated by an electric current and the opportunity for the laws of gravity to be challenged. 

Great strides in further subversion were made by 1924 with Miro’s stated intent to transform the ‘canvas into a neutral indeterminate surface where figures could float free as dream-like signs within a transfigured world’ [Candela p10-11]

Surrealism had given Miro licence to express his transcended vision, surpassing the limitations of even Cubism’s multi-perspective revolution – for Miro space was a much more dimensional domain and thus his alignment is clear with much later 20^th century physicists who adhere to theories of physical space extending up to 26 dimensions

PICASSO

Picasso’s birth pre-dates Miro by over 11 years and so the planetary factors giving rise to his personal energetic blueprint are in a different category – so distinct in fact that Miro warrants more acclaim for his scientifically accurate perception of reality, long before such aspects of physics were determined or given theoretical credence

Picasso’s artistic credentials comply with the expected correspondences: he has creatively prominent Leo as his rising sign; Venus the indicator of aesthetic sensitivity in Libra –the sign most associated with fine art; a predominance of factors [6 in total] in Taurus-Scorpio adds to the picture via the strong attunement to sensory faculties endowed by those energies.

Were it not for further ingredients, Picasso could have been someone immersed in a very prolific creative occupation. Jupiter in Taurus created the abundance of his work and typically of Taurus a fondness for the tactile shown in his large body of three dimensional work, including ceramics, collage, costume, theatre sets  plus an often heavily gestural style. An enduring love of voluptuous forms is evident -  as well as the recurrent Bull motif. Life in all its earthly Taurean glory is offset with death and destruction elements [Scorpio] including skull imagery.

Pluto, Neptune and Uranus also have major roles to play in lifting Picasso beyond a merely successful career. Pluto enables an extremely penetrating insight and awareness. Placed in such connectivity to Mercury [mind] and in Taurus gave Picasso a metaphysical awareness – a capacity to understand the transcendance of material reality – its destruction and renewal.

Neptune in Taurus conceptualises the dissolution process, dematerialising the object. So much of Picasso’s work is about line, contour.

Uranus brings a strong influence to his Sun [by semisquare angle] and the Sun’s interaction with Jupiter-Neptune [the midpoint of these connects to Uranus] and this ingredient is the avant garde indicator –the rule-breaking, subversive and overall unconventional capacity which lights revolutionary fires.

Although Picasso clearly broke ground in the canon of Western art history and remains enduringly significant, that status may be more as a result of work that reflects his attachment to the earthly domains which make people secure and comfortable – even when rather oddly packaged - versus Miro’s desire to portray unrecognisable and bizarre symbolic and dreamlike realms where many fear to tread

In the longer stretch of global cultural history, Miro’s vision is likely to have renewed spike’s of relevance since the energetic pathway denoted by the spatial orbits of the signifiers Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn and Jupiter are increasingly engaged in shared cycles emphasising the conceptual over the form, the idea over the object –a process emerging in fine art since the radical revisions of Dada, Cubism and Surrealism opened the doorway to alternative ways of perception.

 so do the territory or theatres of warfare

From land based skirmishes, to battles at sea, then air, - commencing in former times with kite and balloon assisted weaponry, long before the pronounced use of airplanes in the twentieth century - and beyond the earth domain into space - where to date only test programs have been enacted with no casualties -already anticipating future military scenarios: 

the major powers are effectively enabled for military engagements in outer space.

Land, Sea, Air, Space - the four domains of human exploration are already militarized, but we have entered now the Fifth Domain of Cyberspace - which has more potential for widespread destruction than anything other than nuclear weaponry.

• From May 28, 2000 to Dec 21, 2020 is the last gasp in Earth element dominance [focus on material objects & grossly physical technologies] for hundreds of years.

• A decline in materialistic values and attachment to the physical, eg disdain for possessions is inevitable during the Air dominant period increasingly over the next two hundred years from 2021.

2012 - 2015 Zodiac Forecast - who is most affected?

2012-2015 Forecast 

- looks like very rough & tough for many. We are about to face a tough four years when an energy pattern not seen since the 1930's will bring dramatic changes to the lives of many around the world.
This forecast was published on Dec 30 2011

• Uranus and Pluto are set to turn the world upside down both literally and figuratively during a phase of readjustment which affects people and places.
• We know so much has to change in order for a better world to develop. Many imbalances have to be rectified so that the extremes of too much and too little cease to devastate the planet and people's lives.
•  Already we have started to experience the foreshadowing of what is to come due to early interactions between these two planetary energies setting the scene for the tide of change to come more emphatically - political unrest, economic austerity and conditions of social adversity. 
• The Occupy movement has made a start in publicising the need for equity and fair practices, but despite this, corruption related to money is rampant

1. All energy patterns occur within an electromagnetic matrix that exists throughout the universe.
2.  For any prevailing energy pattern to affect someone -whether actively by triggering a behaviour or passively by attracting a behaviour - the person will have a resonant or matching vibrational pattern aligned to the vibrational frequency of the planetary energy.
3. Astrology is simply a language for this patterning, using the symbolism of the planets and the descriptive terms identifying the type of energy created when planetary bodies form geometric relationships, called angles -such as square (90degrees) or opposition (180degrees)
4.  Like people, places also have a resonant energy pattern and thus some people and some places seem especially targeted by a particular planetary pattern.  When you are born - place, time, season, generation - are all highly significant in unfolding your destiny or karma. 

Though it is hard to simplify such information, it is possible to highlight particular groups of people who will be most challenged by the changes to come during 2012-2015.

Firstly I have looked at particular birth dates (Sun position) and secondly birthdates of the 8th harmonic group ( 45 degree multiples).
Both of these categories have been identified in relationship to the positions of Uranus square Pluto during 2012-2015.

Some flexibility is needed re the dates which means that effects can occur on or around the dates specified because highly specific info can only be provided when individual birth time-date-place data is provided.
For the same reason this data cannot cover all the birthdates of people affected - having the Moon or other planets like Mercury, Venus, Mars etc in one of the target degrees will result in obvious effects. 
(You need a personal astrological birth chart analysis to  know this.) 

The keys signs of the Uranus-Pluto pattern are Aries and Capricorn but Libra and Cancer are intrinsically implicated being the rest of the cardinal sign group.  Bodily stresses for this whole Cardinal sign group include head injury or injury from weapons; issues with blood, fever, bones, knees, teeth, kidneys and stomach.

The 8th harmonic group is fixed signs Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio -with body weaknesses being heart, circulation, throat, thyroid, neck, sex organs, reproductive/fertility issues.

So internal stresses -bodily - are equally possible effects -  as are outward stresses for an individual -eg those involving their environment, locality, nation and the world at large.

New Structures is the necessity of this planetary pattern. 
To create something new can mean the old must be destroyed, replaced, deconstructed, remodelled, transformed, possibly annihilated. 
Radical changes are likely to be commonplace in order to break with the past, tradition, old habits and practices. Resistance to change will also be evident and people in the 8th harmonic group -the Fixed zodiac signs are most likely to passionately avoid going with the flow willingly.  
For this reason they are most likely to experience enforced changed coming from more powerful forces -eg weather, nature, political policies, social unrest. 
To prepare for change which may be imminent for you, take time to reflect on what is really not working in your life and personal state of being. 
Start there and you will contribute to the collective shift instead of ending up in the highly stressed resistant group.

Alternative sources of information are increasingly more vital - especially when extreme weather or earth changing events are anticipated. The role of planetary forces impacting life on earth is examined in all of these posts -whether that be solar or lunar cycles or the role of more distant planets. In our rapidly changing world people are looking for ways of comprehending the uncertainty and dramatic events unfolding globally. Certainly it can be of help to understand cycles, because they are the bottom line when it comes to all existence. They are nature's inherent program - not a neat sequential linear timeline as our minds are conditioned to believe in. Christchurch Quake Warnings extended by GNS Science

Prior blog entries this year, on Christchurch, like this one and Recent Quake Data, give some background of my concern over the future of Christchurch as a safe, viable place to live. These concerns involve not only the geophysical state of the local region and city, but also the disturbed people energy, which spreads and reproduces.

A regular tracking of the daily aftershocks through the Christchurch Quake Map (2640 aftershocks plus the initial event on Feb 22, (7068 from Sept 4 2010 to May 31) shows how regularly the area is pummeled, from central Christchurch, west to the Greendale fault which occurred last September, and east to the harbour hills as well as the seafloor.

Challenging social issues will continue to hit the headlines despite the highly commendable efforts of many who wish to rebuild their lives and communities. Their lives will never be the same as pre-quake and their strong attachment to their beloved neighbourhoods may test them to the extreme.

Today, NZ Herald reports that the government science agency GNS has now taken a rare, proactive stance, in forewarning of the likelihood of a high intensity quake in the region, in the coming 12 month period. The probability percentage has been raised significantly from an earlier forecast, only a month ago.
Furthermore the risk zone is delineated as region-wide, from Rangiora in the North to Lincoln in the South, west to Sheffield, east to Banks Peninsula.    full report (Update: the original text has been edited on the Herald website and information deleted re upgraded forecasting, that was visible this morning. This is highly questionable and raises the question of who ordered the removal and why.)

For a government science office to release this type of probability forecasting, there would be clear grounds to assume a seismically significant event is on the horizon.

This report places the people of Canterbury region and the Christchurch City rebuild in virtual suspension.

Where to now?

The citizens must be fully informed.



Update pm May 31

Contact hazards modeller Dr Matthew Gerstenberger at the Crown research institute to see if he can confirm the very recent reformulated predictions updated just in the past month. Being a government employee however, he may now be subjected to a gagging order. (oops even he is back-tracking now since the story burst: "We don't really have any specific way to narrow that down to Christchurch, but as a kind of guide based on some basic information, that's roughly a quarter of that probability." -via TVNZ website.   Ehhh??
After all, it was only Councillor Sue Wells blog that gave the media a release on this. It is seeming now like she let a rather large cat out of the bag.
Meanwhile Mayor Bob Parker is in damage control mode, somehow translating the science into a new probability %, a probability based on a probability and the estimated unlikelihood of history repeating...He is on shaky ground here.
GNS say Scientists are still investigating why this has been a particularly rich sequence compared with the forecasts on the Geonet website, but neither GNS not Geonet appear to have published a press release on their sites re the information released by Sue Wells.

The Christchurch Press of today  has some interesting feedback on this story.

3News featured the story on TV3 May 31st, but Recovery Minister Brownlee undermined the science saying "It's just a prediction." likening it to the Rapture date prediction by Harold Camping. Ehhh???

Update June 1
Sue Wells on Afternoons with Uncle Jim says she received vitriolic feedback for writing of the seismic forecast. The reaction she got is akin to some of the flak directed at alternative forecaster Ken Ring. The negative response shows a lot of people are too afraid to think ahead. The rest of us are too afraid not to.

The Press reports a storm has erupted over this issue, resulting in a press conference to be called on Friday June 3, allowing further clarification by geoscientists.

The Christchurch Quakemap data by 7.04 pm shows the region surrounding Rolleston, south-west of Christchurch, has been hammered by 12 of the 15 quakes so far today. Today's activity contrasts with recent subsidence, with the past week featuring since May 31 the following daily totals of aftershocks in the local region: 4,2,2,2,3,3
The final total was 24 shocks on June 6, most around Rolleston, 10 events M3.0 and higher. see Quakemap

In the Press, a geoscientist basically fails to assure anyone : Dr Kelvin Berryman says we're always going to do ballpark figures and that  scientists are failing to communicate scientific data to the public.
Is there a geoscientist who will stand up and say:
The situation in Canterbury-Christchurch is unusual, unexpected and therefore highly unpredictable. On that basis people must clearly choose whether to stay or go, as a significant risk cannot be dismissed as unlikely. Neither the government, local or national, nor the support services can protect you from any future event and given the financial burden related to recent quake events, the likelihood of continued financial bailouts, in response to a further major natural disaster, is conversely of low probability.

An overseas report (audio) re early quake prediction concerning infra-red emissions and electron concentrations in the atmosphere and ionosphere, possibly triggered by radon gas emissions from the earth.

Update June 11
The region surrounding the Greendale fault in west Canterbury (site of the Sept 4 quake) is being hammered by small shallow aftershocks. Nearby Rolleston came into the picture with a M4 on May 9, so  this has resumed being an active area for the past month, peaking on June 6 M5.5.

Since ground level changes post-quakes have meant a sinking of up to one metre in some areas, Christchurch is warned about sea level rise by global warming scientist James Hansen. His views are disputed by a New Zealand scientist. Meanwhile Kiwi grandad Nigel Williams (formerly of Christchurch) is concerned about melting sea ice making NZ coastal communities uninhabitable. He provides google sourced maps to show even an 80 metre inundation is significant all over NZ. This is a longer time frame scenario in all cases but if Christchurch is geologically moving to a sinking pattern, aggravated by quakes, heavy rainfall events will continue to increase flood risks. In addition, the Pegasus Bay faults noted in the June 3 update could feasibly be the site of an offshore quake, producing a tsunami wave. Rangiora and Kaiapoi would be in the central gathering point of a water force from the bay.

New probability figure released: according to the Christchurch Press report of this morning:
New calculations by GNS Science yesterday show that from today until June 15 next year there is now a 30 per cent chance of a quake of between magnitude 6.0 and 6.9 striking the Canterbury aftershock zone.

Banks Peninsula is being hammered, up to M5.0, continuing an apparent eastwards trend towards the seafloor, the northern coastal hills feature strongly in the data to 8.30a.m. today. Banks Peninsula is an interesting volcanic zone, the most prominent in the South Island. There is a fractured history of Maori-Paheka discord prior to the Treaty in 1840.
