Sagittarius profile: Sinead O'Connor - The Torment

Breaking News

On 26 July 2023 it was announced that Sinead had died - subsequent to another very challenging period after the suicide of her 17 year old son in 2022.

Sinead described son Dylan as "the one person who loved me unconditionally"

For millions of fans Sinead represented not only a very powerful talent in the music industry but also a representative of the lifelong challenges faced by all who have suffered the severe wounding of childhood abuse.

The transit of Pluto in late Capricorn became sustained since early 2022 - creating a very stressful angle to Sinead's 26 Libra Moon -which is natally semisextile her Neptune-Mercury in Scorpio. This pairing is trined to the deeply sensitive water combination of  Chiron-Saturn in Pisces. 

Intense pressure on her very fragile emotional stability would have ensued after the shock of losing her son.

Returning to London early July after a long absence Sinead appeared to be full of plans for reviving her career.

The buildup of Cardinal energy by mid July 2023 saw Sun in Cancer intensify in opposition to Pluto - adding to the load of emotional pain inherent in the Scorpio and Pisces water factors in Sinead's chart.

It's hard to overlook Sinead as a charismatic performer, with a great voice and a tortured soul.

Irish singer Sinead O’Connor has experienced an extensive successful career as a singer-songwriter since the 1980's

She has also come into public awareness because of her beliefs regarding social injustice, religion,her personal angst around family relationships.

With considerable family dysfunction and personal trauma pre-dating her music career, Sinead then experienced further pain in her relationships with partners and the children born of those unions.

So three significant strands can be identified:

So here you have a major loop of mental pressure activated in the 19-23 degrees in the mutable signs – emphasised anytime any current planet is transiting that degree range – which is a common and repeated event in some instances. The Sun does it four times a year – mid March, mid June, mid September and mid December.  The Moon does it four times a month. 

But it is the outer planets that hold the most capacity to cause crisis – the energies triggered will be significant for Sinead throughout her lifetime when Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto and the asteroid Chiron transit through 19-23 degrees of any of the four mutable signs Gemini Sagittarius,Virgo, Pisces ( the wider range from 18-24 degrees will be alive in terms of triggering power)

For this reason the period April 2015-April 2017 when Chiron progresses then retrogrades in the range 18-24 Pisces marks a particularly demanding period for Sinead. 

This is yet anothr occasion when multiple psychological complexes involving woundedness and pain are activated concerning personal relationships (Venus) sense of self (Sun), limitations and control (Saturn), disempowerment (Pluto),  individual expression & injustice (Uranus)

But each time in her life that this same intense pressure is applied, she is being urged to find a way out, a way through, a way beyond.

It's not intended as a punishment regime or a torture - it is a powerful collection of energetic forces urging her to find resolution through discovering new solutions, new behaviours, new choices.

But there is even more in the picture due to the connections made by Mercury and Neptune to the major mutable pattern.

Mercury and Neptune were at her birth in the fixed water sign Scorpio and in the mutable water sign Pisces location of the chart = double emotional depth, intensity = a flooding of the thoughts and the mind making clarity and reason hard to find - so a different part or function of the mind is asking to be utilised: the spiritual level of consciousness. 

Faith, belief and spirituality

Neptune and Pisces spiritualise the mind, making religion, faith very much a mental preoccupation for Sinead –though a stressful matter due to the other demanding pattern of planets that feeds into this issue: faith and religion for her are beset by the pain of restriction, issues of disempowerment, loss of freedom. 

To be raised in association with the rigors of Catholic thought has been fraught with difficulty, distress but she has the rebellious spirit drawn from the Uranus influence and being born a Sagittarian has its gifts. 

The Sagittarian has a mission to explore widely the potentials of the physical, mental and spiritual – so a pathway through sport, exercise, study, travel and belief is a natural progression over a lifetime, to acquire broad experience, knowledge, wisdom and ultimately – to practice of a set of morals, ethics or beliefs about life or the nature of our existence – coming to terms with what it means to be human within a larger cosmos.

This recognition of personal place within the whole can come under the faith-based religions such as Christianity or Islam or under the philosophy based beliefs such as Buddhism.

Sinead obviously has considerable karma with the realm of Catholicism but a reorientation and reclaiming of her spirituality in a more personally appropriate form is not beyond the realm of possibilities for her. 

Saturn is the force that keeps her in traditional relationship to the mindset of Catholicism –but she has that most rebellious energy, Uranus opposing Saturn. 

Pluto the transformational force is conjuncting Uranus and also opposing Saturn – giving Sinead an amazing potential to overthrow the patriarchal (Saturnian) religious domination that tortures her mind.

And make no mistake, this is a battle for the mind and in recent years the rebellion of youth has given way to high profile indicators of much mental distress.

In the meantime, Saturn’s 2016-2017 transit through Sagittarius will provide further major challenges she has to win in order to survive. She has to replace her original spiritual base with new foundations, building something more personalised and more relevant, to usurp and transcend the damage done to her spiritual consciousness as a result of her involvement with Catholicism.

Fundamentally the challenge issued when personal responses arise during a Saturn experience, is to grow up, mature, act like an adult – but for a person suffering post traumatic stress disorder from emotional and physical abuse within her own family, developmental delays are automatic – the ideal progression from child to adult does not occur within the usual parameters of  typical life stages. Inadequate, neglectful or damaging forms of parenting create real life impediments –and Sinead is a clear example with this as she struggles herself as a mother.

Libra is the energy often found connected to people with musical talents –as instrumentalists or singers.

Libra is connected to balance and harmony - so these qualities not only apply to music, they also operate in the other territory of Venus -personal relationships.

Sinead has Moon and Mars in Libra – Mars made very prominent at the top of the chart and the Libran planet Venus is prominent in the big energy pattern outlined above, and due to the location that shows influences in the early weeks of her life.

The Sun and Venus show she was exposed to very influential creative and musical experiences as a very young infant - as well as very challenging atmospheres related to family relationships, the Church, beliefs, faith and how connected all these influences are regarding her need for self transformation and for spiritual growth. 

Shining as a performer, appreciated by large audiences is a necessary healing experience for Sinead to offset the torment of her personal struggles.

Since Feb 3 2012, Neptune is now fully progressing through its own sign Pisces, for the next 13 years . This energy shift has the potential to progress humanity into a more healthy and connected state, 
but not without trials and challenges. 
We are likely to see the worst of Pisces/Neptune before the pendulum brings forth the best expressions of this energy, 
that people can aspire to. 
Essentially, the Neptunian state of awareness is very consistent with the findings of quantum physicists who talk of existence as an undifferentiated whole in language that sits meaningfully alongside the Buddhist conception of reality. 
The fundamental interconnectedness of all things is what humanity at large has forgotten and for millennia we have lived in a state of illusion. From this comes all the woes we now face - wars,  oppression, greed and the trashing of the natural world, are all related signs of this dis-ease.

This chart is significant for the spiritual imperative of Neptune in Pisces arising in concert with the Saturn Libra to Sun-Jupiter in Aries opposition. Pressures relating to fiscal restraint along with  relationship dynamics under duress are indicated. 
Public and private necessities to get your house in order. 
Chiron in close proximity to Neptune indicates the wounded soul of humanity, disposed more to the escapist, addictive, corrupt and devious underbelly of Neptune than its higher octave of kindness, compassion and goodness. 
Forgetting we are connected means we abuse each other.

The collection of 6 planets in Aries is a dominant theme, emphasising violence male/yang force aggression and militarism and the pursuit of selfish goals, which are to some extent moderated by Saturn's urge towards restraint, mediation, balance and peace-making, but the balance here is somewhat overwhelmingly reckless, accentuated by Mars tightly linked to Uranus.

Not a great opening scenario for Neptune to work in a healing way.

Neptune and Chiron remain linked - prominently in Auckland, New Zealand, on the birth point, the AC ascendant, raising the question of what sort of Neptunian woes/Neptunian healing we will see in this city over the course of the Neptunian period till April 2025

With the sextile to Jupiter in Taurus is it dreams of riches? Fantasies about living the life of the fabulously wealthy? But Saturn sits across the way from Jupiter, and extends a restraining arm to Neptune as well as linking mathematically to the Sun - and so some will respond to that parental guiding [inner or external] voice and resist the excesses that Jupiter and Neptune together do so well. Over-spending, over-eating, hoarding, excess accumulating, will resonate for some people -but those urges are coming from the wounded Chiron part of the psyche. 
They are symptoms of a state of distress, a gaping hole that can only be addressed by  - you  guessed it - the Neptunian medicine.

Aquarian experiences in recent years [Neptune in Aquarius] have brought people together collectively largely via technology of social media. 
It may be remote, anonymous and faceless, but it the Aquarian group consciousness, friendliness instinct and networking drive have knitted together a type of matrix onto which the overlays of Neptunian sensitivity can be grafted during the 13 years ahead. 

Neptune in Pisces offers the capacity for a sense of universal oneness, a sense that we are all in this together. Out of this can ultimately arise empathy and compassion on a scale possibly not seen before. 
For this big ask to occur, something Big is likely to spread a global sense of union. How else is a currently rather rotten humanity, beset by comparatively antithetical imperatives, to be transformed so powerfully. 
It seems a galvanizing event or events will be the catalyst.

Neptune in Pisces will place greater emphasis on:

water, all things maritime, chemicals, drugs, addictions, the seedy realms, oil, gas, images, non-physical dimensions, spiritual and religious, transcendance, sacrifice, immersion, escapism, fantasy, dreams, movies & movie-making, fraud, fakes, scams, delusion, confusion, denial, magic, oneness, compassion

In addition Neptune in Pisces has an influence over the whole range of mutable sign primary issues: Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius as well as Pisces

Other elements in the ingress charts:
Venus, Mars and the Moon in a tight pattern suggest strong mating urges driven by a mothering instinct. A noticeable baby boom is a potential outcome triggered in the period of influence 2012-2025.
Chiron is on the Jupiter-Pluto midpoint - this has the potential to enable charismatic leaders to inspire the oppressed to organize to bring about systemic transformations.
The negative shadow of this is that those feeling oppressed or disengaged [Chiron]will seek to gain unbridled power [Jupiter-Pluto]. This leaves open the return of abusive people and brutal regimes.

Belief systems are a fundamental driving force in this era but there will also be suppressive & repressive forces, channeled through Saturn, which oppose freedom of information. Clearly the internet and social media may be targets on the receiving end of these reactionary impulses.

What is the astrological connection between drugs, nutritional supplements & sport -take a look at this sketch showing the quartet of mutable signs Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius.

All signs have multiple connected keywords attached which explain their range of expressions, but for the purposes of the drugs-in-sport issue it is clear how the mutable group of signs has clear involvement: 
Pisces is drugs, chemicals in general as well as dishonest practices. 
The polarity sign Virgo concerns the optimum functioning of the digestive system and so relates to the goal of perfection via maximum nutrition. 
Sagittarius and Gemini both relate to the physical use of the body - Gemini on the everyday level of transporting the body from one place to another -by walking or cycling. 
Sagittarius is the professional or dedicated level of exercise or sport- involving focussed programs and competition aimed at maximum development & attainment of the human body. This illusion or dream (Pisces) of superhuman (Sagittarius) perfection (Virgo) is the problem. The goal is unnatural and a fantasy.  
The irony is that this is a problem of Mind or consciousness, an error in thinking - and we return to the roles played by all 4 mutable signs here: pisces is self delusion as well as trying to fool others, Virgo is the mental attachment to the goal of perfection and involves extreme detailed analysis of the ideal nutritional or drug cocktails. Gemini is the everyday functioning level of the mind and how communication take place with others. Sagittarius is the beliefs or philosophy held. 

Errors in thinking, analysis and beliefs along with the urge to engage in dishonest practices are clearly evident in the drugs-in-sport problem. 

The irony is there are alternative ways of using all the energies in this group. With greater enlightenment, sports professionals in large numbers will recognise that mind training (Sagittarius) and meditation (Pisces) have far more powerful results in sports attainment than from physical training. Enough studies have already confirmed this. This is the way of the future.

Neptune in Pisces challenged by Saturn in Sagittarius 2015-2015.
What does this mean in relationship to events of late 2015?
In the context of the November 13 terror attacks in Paris, so soon after the October 31 bombing of a Russian plane in Egypt - both events attributed to ISIS jihadists -in addition to the issue of the  human flood of displaced people entering the Eurozone, which reached crisis point in September 2015 the energy of Saturn arises strongly in response to the Neptunian situation:

The human flood is a situation that is Neptunian, people moving like a flood of water, a river or stream entering modern era Europe which has had open borders under the Schengen Agreement since 1985.
With the energy of Saturn being strengthened starting from November 2015 and extending till October 2016 many things will change in respect of Neptunian situations. [Saturn in Sagittarius at exact 90 degree square to Neptune in Pisces]

Saturn carries the energy of authorities, controls, borders, restrictions, rules, regulations, difficulties
Neptune is the energy of fluid, vague, flowing, uncontrolled things or situations.

Saturn and Neptune are in many ways polar opposites -one likes it loose, one likes it tight, one is rigid the other is tolerant; one is conservative and conscientious, the other is a free spirit disliking routine and so on

The intensification of security threats in late 2015 means that Neptunian situations are set to be tightened up by measures that reflect a Saturn energy reaction.

So when Saturn is square Neptune repeatedly in the period Nov 2015-Oct 2016 a wide array of corresponding things/people which have Pisces/Neptune energy will be subjected to forces of control/discipline/restriction.
Governments will enforce much tighter security.
People who are not mainstream are more likely to feel the conservative side of Saturn which is the demand that everyone -even the ill, elderly, disabled pull their weight under tough conditions - logically being socio-economic pressures which make governments far less tolerant of welfare, far less prone to compassion or empathy.

Things People Are Afraid Of

Too many to list. In fact the list of possible phobias identified is also too long to repeat. A curse of being human it seems is to be afraid, insecure. People handle it differently within our hard-wired fight-flight options. Do you get under the covers or rush outside to confront that strange bump in the night?
This afternoon a man gave feedback to Radio New Zealand host Jim Mora after Jim had discussed a guest's interest in astrology. The listener who felt compelled to contact Jim attacked him basically for giving astrology any credence ( even though Jim has been heard in the past week to diss it) So the listener then extends his banned subjects to include homeopathy, crystals and beings at the bottom of the garden. Wow thought I, all things I believe in.
So the listener must by now be frothing in apoplexy that National Radio is endorsing such stuff. And he is not alone, since we have officially a Skeptics Society, numbers unknown, but typically fronted by Vicki Hyde of Christchurch. It puzzles me why the media call on her repeatedly for her views on psychics, homeopathy, paranormal phenomena, earthquake prediction, astrology, natural medicine et alia. The media simply needs to seat a Vicki doll in front of the camera and replay the same sound-bite over and over.

I'm afraid of drowning in the deep blue sea and I would not temp rattlesnakes, wild bears or certain tough looking dogs, but I'm not afraid of magic, mystery, electromagnetic energy, plants that can heal, the power of the mind.
It always intrigues me to encounter people who are afraid of the most amazingly useful and helpful things. Their fear is extreme and irrational rather than practical and functional. They get strongly aroused in opposition to stuff that they may never have even experienced and they show a strong resistance to even trying to get acquainted with those offensive ideas or beliefs.
(update inserted: wow New Zealand National Radio appears to be a hotbed of conservatism. Programme host Simon Upton interviewed US Family Physician John House, who has a progressive approach to community health. To someone familiar with all things alternative this was an inspiring story, but to the host, Simon, it was virtually the work of the Devil. His anxiety showed through in repeated references to unhealthy associations, by questioning any links to Jim Jones (mass suicide), cults, and Waco (violent siege at Protestant community). Dr House had the commonsense and good humour to simply laugh off the references -probably because he thought they were too stupid to be anything more than a joke. The response to my email: "In our view there were some valid questions to be asked about the idealogy and philosophy underpinning the Barter Village concept.". The comments were described as "light-hearted" - which is the standard back-track position. No surprise there. Upton didn't even get the point. He is a classic example of how media shape public opinion.

One possible explanation when it comes to deep and especially irrational fears, is trauma carried over from a previous lifetime - so to comprehend this you need to be open to the notion of having lived many times before, way back to ancient times, and in varying circumstances and genders. Rich, poor, big, small, male, female and any of many possible racial groups. Lots of times and places in which to accumulate experience and memories to carry through. So do people who are afraid of the metaphysical -the realm beyond everyday material objects - have an ancient fear of sorcery or witchcraft? Are they associating alternative beliefs with the Devil? Are their minds locked into a tightly defined religious code that allows only their God to have total control? These people are desperately afraid of what they cannot accept. The problem arises for us in communities, nations and the globalised world, when people afraid of the beliefs of others seek to stamp out, repress and destroy the expression of those beliefs. Fundamentally this is the cause of immense destruction and death on a large scale. Fear is a powerfully motivating drive and it operates at its worst in conditions of contagion  -when like wildfire or horses spooked, the group mind operates as one -witnessed recently in the UK and London rioting.

We are living in a significantly anxious age, when understanding the nature of fear could be a survival skill worth having.

The Holographic Mind as a Reality Template

One of the most significant books contributing to my concept of the nature of reality was The Holographic Universe, by Michael Talbot, first encountered in the late 1980's.

With its clear explanations this book encompasses not only the way quantum physics explains so much of our world, but also covers the stuff on the fringes that most people fear and shy away from: a holographic model explains how everything from the concepts of planetary influences to psychic and paranormal phenomena are part of the fabric of reality. This is a truly holistic vision, and once you have grasped what a hologram is, you will have a beginning concept of how this might apply to absolutely everything in existence.

As a simple example, from the link above, when comparing a printed photograph to a hologram, Talbot explains:
             every part of a hologram contains all the information possessed by the whole

and this example by itself encapsulates the holographic model of reality he discusses. 

Holography links perfectly with the philosophy of Buddhism, which proposes there is no separation, we are all connected, part of one whole existence, perception of separation is an illusion and to hold a belief of being separate or distinct from other people, creatures and things is as strange as believing that your own hand or leg is not part of you. Most of us only enter the connected world during sleep time. Meditators can do this during hours of usual wakeness and those involved in perpetual spiritual practice would operate naturally on the universally connected level. Clearly something about the way in which the everyday awake mind processes information (most probably light itself) creates the false sense of distinction, separateness and difference. This perception is then employed to artificially categorise all things into such boxes as animal, vegetable, mineral, caucasian, negroid, asian, polynesian, dog, cat, budgie, horse  and so on into incredible sub-categories, sub-species, on and on. These perceptions make life fun for those who love lists but they are the basis of hatred, war, rejection, grief, pain, insecurity and conversely, the absence of compassion, empathy, love, bliss, security. You can only hate and reject The Other if you hate and reject yourself, as they are the same. Being able to conceive everyone is me ( a reflection of me, an aspect of me) means you cannot hate or reject another person without simultaneously hating and rejecting a part of yourself. The solution to this conundrum is healing through, self compassion, often called forgiveness, because the world you encounter, being holographic in nature, will continually feed back to you, like in an endless hall of mirrors, your range of internal personae or traits, manifested as other people.  In everyday terms we hear: Clean up your own back yard, instead of moaning about the neighbour's rubbish pile. It is only by totally honest self confrontation can you hope to alter your holographic footprint and generate feedback which nurtures you and lessens suffering. Without breaking the cycle the feedback loop creates what most would recognise as an experience of hell on earth, a living nightmare of continual repeats or themes.

Though Christianity has been corrupted by many for their own empowerment, the basic tenants relating to behaviour and redemption relate to universal truths. In this way many people have known healing through the church, but it is not necessary, or even sensible, to invest ultimate power in a figurehead as the controller of a person's life. A teacher is a teacher, a channel of information. The task for the student is to utilise the information, not worship the messenger, because such idolatry is an act of separation: the god is within.

Talbot says:

At its deeper level reality is a sort of superhologram in which the past, present, and future all exist simultaneously.
