2012 has gotten off to a bang, literally with the Friday 13th of January maritime disaster involving the 2006 cruise ship Costa Concordia striking rocks, taking on water, listing and finally coming to lay on its starboard side at the port of Giglio Island off the coast of Italy .
 In 2006, the Concordia was the largest cruise ship ever at that time. Now it is lowly ranked at #26 since the era of gargantuan ships in recent years. Sailing mainly under flags of convenience which allows less stringent employment regulations and tax minimization, these ships tend to be registered in places like Panama and employing low cost service workers. The mega American corporate Carnival owns Costa, Cunard and P&O. Critics say that the bloated floating complexes have compromised safety in favour of revenue.
The final indignity: the Concordia is too big to move and is likely to be cut into pieces for removal.

In Jan 20, Astrologer Archie Dunlop gives a possible birthdate of Nov 14 1960 for Capt. Schettino, a Neptunian Scorpio. If that date was correct his Sun at 21 degrees is in a lengthy challenging phase with Pluto in Capricorn. Issues of death and responsibility combine in this pairing.

The Costa Concordia remains tenuously on undersea ledge in 15-20 metres of water, in rough water on MondayThe deceased are said to total 6 with 29 missing including 4 crew. Numbers remain preliminary.
Described as an"ecological timebomb", the ship had 2380 tonnes of fuel on board.

ASTROLOGY
It appears the critical incident occurred close to 9.30pm local time.
A possible event chart calculated for 9.35pm Jan 13 2012 in the locality of the port of Giglio is shown below so those interested can view the planetary alignments coinciding with this event.

As expected a cluster of linked planetary energies were triggered at this time and the locality was where the potential manifested.

The current (January 2012) powerful cluster involves Jupiter-Uranus-Neptune-Chiron all tightly linked in relationship to Saturn.

Saturn figures consistently in disastrous events. 

The midpoint grid above shows the point of energy blend between any two elements in the event chart. A midpoint synergises the two forces powerfully.
Note how the Sun-Mercury, Sun-Pluto, Jupiter-Uranus, Saturn-Uranus midpoints all cluster at 15-16 degrees -three of those in Capricorn and one in Aries -  so they are all connected as cardinal signs creating the signatures themes of casualties (Uranus) and death (Pluto) plus the destruction (Pluto) of the large vessel (Jupiter) involving a sharp (Aries) rock (Saturn)

Being a mass karma event the nodes of the Moon are prominent, being in exact alignment to the central vertical axis of Gemini-Sagittarius. both signs link to forms of transport, movement and travel as well as communications, they differ in terms of the scale of movement and range of communications.
Saturn sits at the midpoint of the north lunar node in Sagittarius ( offshore travel, big adventure) and the rising sign ascendant timing point -the AC in Virgo.
It is evident that at 9.25pm this destructive pattern involving the mass destiny of people was exactly activated by a rising degree of 14 Virgo.

Since New Year 2012 Saturn has inched closer by the day to align strongly with the group of planets that combines keywords related to large objects, the sea and maritime issues, accidents and trauma. Another strong pattern is ready to form in the period January 19-22 2012 when the Sun, Moon, lunar nodes, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Chiron are again capable of triggering an event which could involve similar keywords involving travel-large luxury transport-maritime-disaster. Saturn is definitely prominent then being exact square to the Sun and Neptune linked in, but as stated, the range of keywords that could combine is comprehensive. With Saturn in Libra though there is a warning that this period remains challenging for couples, partners, married people in a situation of being transported, especially if it is a group "fantasy","magical" or "dream come true" adventure -as in the ballooning tragedy where 5 couples perished.

The period of risk related to this combination may even extend, on a lesser scale, into early February 2012.

Costa Concordia   initial timeline    January 13-14 2012  via National Post, Canada

7:00 pm (1800 GMT): The ship sets sail from Civitavecchia.

8:35 pm: The Costa Concordia is approaching the island of Giglio.

9:30 pm: The ship strikes rocks some 300 metres from Giglio Island

9:35 pm: Power loss means lights go out

9:45 pm: First alarm: two long whistles and one short to alert crew

9:50 pm: The ship begins to list, indicating more clearly the state of emergency

10:00 pm: Passengers seek access to the fourth deck where the lifeboats are located.  Captain Francesco Schettino attempts to proceed the ship towards shore.

10:10 pm: Seven short whistles and one long provide the Abandon Ship alert. Deployment of lifeboats begins

10:20 pm: Coastguard rescue operation commences. Locals turn out en masse to assist. Passengers have already begun self evacuating by jumping into the sea.

11:15 pm: The first lifeboat reaches Giglio. The Mayor of Giglio says Police Chief saw Capt. Schettino sitting on rocks in front of the ship shortly after 11pm.

11:40 pm: Media reports say Captain Francesco Schettino is found ashore.

Saturday, January 14

2:30 am: Some 300 people remain aboard awaiting evacuation.
